CSX Train Derails In Howard Street Tunnel, Baltimore
A CSX freight train derailed early this morning around 5 am. 13 of the 124 cars derailed fortunately resulting in no injuries or hazmat leaks, even though one of the derailed cars was carrying “large amounts of a possibly flammable liquid” according to Samuel Johnson, fire department spokesperson.
“We want to advise that there are no hazards to the public and this incident has been isolated to the rail tracks in the tunnel.”
Amtrak service is unaffected as they use different railways, however there will be road closures on Mount Royal Ave between North Avenue and Charles Street.
The CSX train was headed from Philadelphia to Cumberland, Md. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
